From vintage sheet music to ladies' accessories, and from vintage inspired footwear to handmade bags and purses, if it's special - it's here!

Ordinarily, new items are added to the online boutique all the time. However, for now, activity in the boutique has been suspended while HQ undergoes a massive overhaul! Swing by regularly to keep up to date with all the latest news, upcoming market appearances and special limited offers though. The Lighthouse Sale

Posted: August 25th, 2008, by ladywurlitzer

As the flat refurbishment continues (and predictably runs behind schedule), I’ve been entertaining myself at The Lighthouse Shop sale weekend!

Much to my excitement and much to the joy of the Maclennan household purse strings, I managed to nab a lovely collection of bargains  to keep in my all-new house when it’s finally finished.

I thought I ought to share one particular item with Nana Moon fans.

This stitched canvas is adorable! The ultimate in granny chic, this little lady appealed to my Nana Moon side and just had to come home with me.  She ought to have cost £150 but thanks to The Lighthouse shop sale, she was rehoused for the princely sum of £15!  Just 10% of the original price.  Now.  That’s a bargain.  There are other  canvasses in the same series and I intend to try collect them all.

Inspired by the ’sewing on canvas’  craft of my ‘Powder My Nose’ art, I can’t wait to try out my own renditions!  I need lots of lovely things to put on my new walls!  I will share the results of my efforts.

Just For Me

Posted: July 18th, 2008, by ladywurlitzer

I’m bang slap in the middle of refurbishing my little flat at the minute. The entire house is topsy turvy and any unsuspecting bystander who happened to come visit, they would be forgiven for thinking they may have taken a wrong turn and landed in the dustiest, messiest corner of the Barras! That said, it has been absolutely necessary for Nana Moon to safely pack away her treasures in an effort to protect them from the madness. I anticipate that the suitcases and bags will be unpacked in three or four weeks. Until then, I will instead tantalise and tease you with couple of little things I have purchased for my new house! How mean of me!

Funny little donkey teatowel - bargain!

This little fella is just adorable! Not only that but both my husband and I were born in 1979 and… not only that but my new kitchen is green! Despite being 29 years old, there’s not an imperfection on this! Perfect!

Little bambi pulling a cart? It’s a vintage eggcup!!

I love, love, love this item. Once the joiner man has fixed Nana Moon’s display shelving, this little guy will take pride of place. Yesterday I happened upon the perfect chum for bambi. I will post a little pic of him when he arrives!

Please be patient while Nana Moon gets herself organised in the midst of the chaos. She’ll be back in business in no time and will have a wealth of treasures and trets for you to feast your eyes upon when the time comes! Save up your pocket money and who knows what gems you might come across :o)

For now, I hope you will enjoy the series of recipes I’ll be posting while the vintage magic is packed away. I’ll also be posting a number of vintage beauty tips. Lots of reasons to continue visiting the site during the temporary closedown!

Hidden Wallpaper Patterns

Posted: July 18th, 2008, by ladywurlitzer

Although the HQ is undergoing a major overhaul and my house is absolutely covered in…endless mountains of…stuff, the dirty tasks do have their brighter points.

I uncovered these patterns underneath a million layers of wallpaper in what will be my new office! I think there may be other hidden gems yet to emerge. Exciting!

1940s Style in London Town

Posted: July 6th, 2008, by ladywurlitzer

Looking for vintage style and beauty inspiration? Feeling glum when you reach for the hairdryer and the ponytail elastic day in day out? Well my pretties, I whole heartedly recommend that time and funds allowing, you ought to consider a special trip to Nina’s Vintage Hair Parlour in London Town.

I’ll be writing a full account of my adventures in Nina’s Parlour over the next few days. For now though you might want to have a look at these links:

You can meet Nina and see her at work here

Learn more about her fabulous enterprise here

Make friends with Nina on Myspace here

For some helpful vintage hairstyling tips, visit YouTube and search for hairdo tutorials from Amanda Hallay. She uses rats to create rolled hairdos from the 40s and 50s in her little clips. Have a look! Since I’m not very dextrous and am pretty useless when it comes to styling my own hair in any sort of elaborate way, I may try to experiment with net and foam rats and see what I can come up with.

The same lady recommends that you learn some retro make up tips from Amy at Ask Me Make Up. I’ve not had a chance to search through this site properly but at first glance some of the tutorial videos on the site look interesting. However, I recommend you take a peek at our very own Vanity Kills’ tutorial at the fabulous Cut Out + Keep/Snippets site for handy hints and tips on vintage-style beauty.

Va-Va Vintage!

Posted: June 16th, 2008, by ladywurlitzer

Support your local Craft Mafia on Saturday June at the QMU!  The guys and gals who bring you handmade delights and an excited flutter in your tummy invite you to peruse the vintage and vintage inspired treats on offer at the Va Va Vintage market!

Vintage sellers Pistol Whip Vintage and Retro City will be bringing you a selection of their wares.  Don’t worry though - all your favourite Mafia makers will be around on the day too! However, due to an unfortunate diary clash, neither Nana Moon nor Lady Wurlitzer will be taking part in the event. My heart breaks a little every time I have to type that :o(

Sweet little wishing well ornament! I wish, I wish, I wish…

Short and stout indeed!  This little fella will scrub up beautifully!

The List

Posted: May 14th, 2008, by ladywurlitzer

How exciting?!

If you happened to purchase a copy of local shopping and ents. bible, The List this week (8th May Issue) then you will have had the pleasure of ooh-ing and aah-ing over a wondrous selection of homewares and interiors ideas pulled together by maven of style, Diana Kiernander.  Alongside fabulous items from stores such as Felix & Oscar and Form, Nana Moon’s wedgwood plates were present on the page in all their granny chic glory!  A proud moment!

As Diana highlighted in her product description, to buy plates individually from other online sources to make up the set you might expect to pay up to £100.  However, Nana Moon offers the set of five plates - all from the ‘Baby Owl’ collection by D.Twinney for a measly £45.00.  Wow.  It is important to highlight that these are of course, decorative plates.  I do not recommend that they are used as dining crockery!

Aren’t they lovely?!

I should note too that two of my Mafia chums were featured in The List interiors feature aswell.  Check out textiles and cushions by Showpony and art by Lee Black.  Hoorah!

Texan Treasures

Posted: May 2nd, 2008, by ladywurlitzer

My friend returned from her month-long trip around Texas this week.  With her she brought a number of little gifts, salvaged from the pick of vintage shops in Austin!  I now have a number of additional items in my collection of beautiful things and am giddy with excitement!

Beautiful little handbag with magic button fastener.  Swoon.

Cowboy belt buckle.  For my husband.

This is Billy the Lamb.  Billy may be short for William or Wilomena.  I’m not sure.

Swell Vintage Finds!

Posted: April 29th, 2008, by ladywurlitzer

I have recently sourced a couple of beautiful, quality vintage items which, I’m afraid, I’m unable to part with! For the time being, these little gems will be gracing my living room and the top of my piano respectively!

A little rub and a little scrub and this hostess trolley will be as good as sparkly new! I’m thinking I might use this as a moveable crafting table. It might work well as a little work surface. I love it. Bargain!

Another bargain! This genuine 1940s mint julep set is the latest addition to my piano-top display of beautiful things. Garry and I drank wine from these little glasses while watching Rebel Without A Cause and we dreamt of the folks who might have sipped from the cups before us! Butterflies in my tummy just thinking of it!
